Helena's dance classes comprise one-third ballet and one-third gymnastics, with the remaining third comprised of pre-choreographed routines in contemporary and jazz styles and teaching the students how to use these skills to create their own routines. We teach and welcome boys into all our classes.
'Ballet teaches placement, turnout, posture and fine motor skills, while gymnastics teaches body tension, strength and tricks; all of which are needed by today's dancers.'
This range of techniques gives Helena's students a full physical skill-base that will support whatever style of dance, sport or theatre they may want to focus on.
The classes also include a section where students are taught choreography or creative movement through story or music where they learn to improvise and create their own dance. This allows students to become confident in their ability to express themselves through movement, confident in their own bodies, and aware of how everyone has their own movement style.
Her classes also learn pre-choreographed routines they may perform at different festivals or at the end-of-year performance at the Bangara Dance Theatre.
Helena's dance school has been running since 1995.
